Six for Saturday: Looking Forward

Six things I'm looking forward to...

1. August 8th. My sister arrives

2. The children's switch around at work to be over with

3. My birthday. 24 sounds better than 23 for some reason.

4. Our anniversary. 3 years!

5. Phone upgrade in October! I'm ready for an android!

6. My husband being sworn in already, and an estimated date for boot camp.

Books for sale!

If you haven't heard yet, Borders is closing all of its stores! They are selling down on everything they have in the stores which means great deals for you! And those deals will only get better each week, but be careful, the good stuff goes pretty darn fast!

If you have a Borders near you, go stock up! I wish I had one near me.

It really is sad that they are closing. I LOVED working at Waldenbooks. It was more for the staff though, than the actual company. Still, it was the first company that I loved being with.

I just hope all those people are able to find replacement jobs quickly! I feel so bad for them. I went through it and I know how heartbreaking it is. To all you Borders employees (even though I know you won't read this) I wish you the best of luck!

People like me! They really like me!!!

I forgot what it's like to be so busy!!!

Two of Steve's friends and one of mine are coming over tomorrow for food and a movie! :)

My play date went well, in case you were wondering haha.

She and I are also going to the midnight showing of Captain America.

Friday night, if I can get out of work right away, I'm going to go to another friends for smores and fireworks! :) I missed out on the last one because I got crap in my eye. *sniffsniff* Not literally "crap," but pollen. Just thought I'd clarify.

It's good to be social again. :D

Clutter

My friend Piper recently posted pictures of her new home. Made me jealous because it's so clutter free! It looks wonderful!!!

So now I'm on a mission to declutter our home. I've been putting away things that just don't really have a place of their own in our one bedroom apartment. I've decided that I will definitely be replacing our current bookshelves with the tall black ones I've been debating. I was going to get rid of the light wood ones I have now, but a friend suggested I paint them and keep them.

I want to always keep a lighter green on our bed and so I'm thinking of painting them green and definitely getting rid of the cardboard backing. I think it'd be a nice accent.

As well, we finally replaced the ugly, uncomfortable futon. Our new couch turns into a bed as well though so that my sister has a comfortable spot to sleep when she comes to visit in a few weeks! It's not a long term couch though. It was super cheap. I'm thinking it will be a spare room couch eventually for our office/guest room.

I basically want to replace everything we own. I most definitely appreciate people giving us stuff, but I'm ready to pick my own style now. Ever so slowly, we are finally starting.

Computer? Check!
Futon? Check!

Up next? I have no idea. Probably the rugs... Those are cheap and easy to replace!

If I only I could just win $5,000, but I have no luck with contests. :(

Why was I right?

ME?! About cars?

So, on my way home from work, my left blinker stopped flashing when I turned it on, which means either the front or the back light are burned out. My blinker and my brake light are one and the same. Great. Last time that happened, I got pulled over the very same day. I didn't want to risk it, so after dinner, we immediately went to Auto Zone to get a new bulb.

I didn't know what kind to get, so I just asked the guy working. He looked it up on the computer and then got it and I bought it. We put it in and the brake light came back on. But my blinker wouldn't flash. It just stayed on.

I was thinking that he sold me the wrong bulb, but asked why it would suddenly just stop flashing even though the light was now working. He said it was probably something in my dashboard. Steve fought me about talking to them about it, but I knew that wasn't it. So we just went home because they were no help.

I decided to look in my glove box and found a spare bulb from when this happened last time. Steve tried putting it in, but it wouldn't go. So I took it away from him and put it in with no problem, and guess what? My blinker now works perfectly fine!

Loser at AutoZone sold me the wrong bulbs. :( But I was right! There's nothing wrong with my actual blinker because I knew there was something wrong with the bulb when the light came on but wouldn't flash.

Edit: I just got back from returning it. They "don't normally return opened packages, but weren't going to hassle me about it." Good! It's their fault! *sigh*

I'm happy my car is all better. :D

My gas gauge also went berserk after work and dropped down two inches past the "E." It's done it once before so I figured refilling it would fix it, and it slowly did about 10 minutes into my drive on my way home. I love my car. <-- Not said sarcastically. It's old, but it's awesome.

Don't worry, it's all fun and games!

I was innocently putting a book away for a customer pick-up when a co-worker started picking on me. She was ringing up another co-worker who told her not to because I'm "so tenderhearted."

She laughed and totally outed me! Going on about my dark streak, and I'm not so innocent or tenderhearted at all. :b WHAT?!

If you know "me" and then really know me... You know how much this is true. Haha. I love that woman and the fact that she can see right through me. :)

Overthinking, it's what I do best

I haven't had a new friend date in awhile, I'm not sure what we should do! I'm nervous. Haha.

I've kind of talked about this before... finding a couple to date with my husband (which I still haven't), but this is just a friend date.

Maybe lunch and an early movie? But she used a term that makes me think she wants to do something more interactive. :/

I KNOW I'm completely overthinking this entirely, but I want it to be a repeat thing because she's really fun to be around! And I want something to do! And someone to do them with! I'm bored and alone all the time at home, so I am really excited about it!

Ooh! But, I am going to the Harry Potter premier with another friend! Steve isn't a Harry Potter fan so he doesn't get excited seeing these imaginary people come to life in front of our eyes! He's coming because he's "seen all the rest, might as well see this one too." *eye roll* He even said no initially.

I have insurance!

My last dermatologist freaked out on me when I told her I got clobetasol (an ointment) from my regular doctor since her appointments were so far out. She tried two other creams on me that I swear caused my psoriasis to go wild. Then she put me on the pills I'm on now. Which worked! Hooray!

However, I didn't check in with a dermatologist when we moved here because we lost insurance, so I stopped taking the pills. And it's expensive to see a dermatologist, get tests done every other week and get the pills every month.

But, with my promotion I got insurance back! Hooray! So I saw my new derm. today. I told him what I had done in the past, and that the pills worked. They had some side effects I wasn't fond of and he said we could do the same thing, and then asked if I was taking another pill with them. I wasn't. I asked if I should have been and what it was. Folic acid. He laughed "you'll be on it with me!" *shrug* Okay.

I have to go back in a month for more tests to see how I'm reacting. I'm so glad it's not every other week like with my other derm! And then he wants to see me in two months and we can talk about lowering my dosage! Hooray!

Polynesian Pineapple Chicken

1/3 c ketchup
3 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp olive oil
1 lb skinless boneless chicken breasts, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 tsp ground ginger
2 carrots, grated
1/4 c slivered almonds
1 (8 oz) can baby corn, drained
1 (8 oz) can water chestnuts, drained
1 (8 oz) can pineapple chunks, drained

----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Combine the ketchup, soy sauce, sugar, vinegar, and cornstarch in a bowl.

2. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook through. Remove from the skillet and reserve.

3. Add ginger and carrots to the skillet, cook until the carrots begin to soften (2 minutes). Stir in the almonds, baby corn, water chestnuts, pineapple and the reserved chicken. Cook 3-4 minutes, stirring often. Add the ketchup mixture; bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly until thickened, about 1 minute.

Serve over rice or rice noodles.
